Thiruvananthapuram: Mumbai-Kerala Ranji Trophy match comes to an exciting end. Kerala needed 303 runs to win with ten wickets remaining on the final day. On the third day of the match held at Thumba St. Xavier’s College ground, Thiruvananthapuram, Mumbai started batting in the second innings and ended with 319 runs. Bhupen Lalwani became the top scorer with 88 runs. Captain Ajinkya Rahane was out for 16 runs and Shivam Dubey was out for 1 run. Jalaj Saxena and Shreyas Gopal took four wickets each for the hosts. MD Nidhish took two wickets.
In reply, Kerala batted at 24 runs without losing a wicket. Rohan Kunnummal and Jalaj Saxena are at the crease with 12 runs each. With 10 wickets remaining on the final day, Kerala need 303 more runs to win. The visitors started the innings on 119 runs without the loss of a wicket on the third day and kept losing wickets. But it was the tail end of the opportunity that saved Mumbai. Mohit Awasthi, who was brilliant in bowling, came in ninth and scored 32 runs to cross the score of 300.
The opening partnership of the visitors, who started batting earlier, ended with 148 runs. Kerala’s wicket-hunt was started by MD Nidhish who dismissed Jai Bista who scored 73 runs off 100 balls. But Mumbai progressed without further loss as Lovelani smashed the second wicket with skipper Ajinkya Rahane. Earlier, Mumbai’s first innings ended with 251 runs.
