Germering – Eight exchange students from the US state of Illinois paid a visit to Mayor Andreas Haas on Monday, July 4th.
The American students come from the small town of Mascoutah with around 8,000 inhabitants in rural Illinois. The nearest major city is St. Louis, about 30 minutes’ drive away in the state of Missouri.
The student exchange with the Realschule Germering has been going on for over 30 years. Every two years before Easter, 20 students fly to the USA to get to know the country and its people. Unfortunately, this year’s visit had to be canceled due to the corona virus. However, the return visit can take place. The American students are accommodated with host families, who also take care of the weekend program. Visits to “tourist classics” such as the royal palaces, the salt mines in Berchtesgaden or others are planned.
