CRICKET – Luuk van Troost, cricket chairman of Excelsior’20, is very disappointed in the municipality of Schiedam. Yes, say: he is of the devil on the church. The cricket ground is under water. Van Troost believes that the municipality is doing too little to remedy and prevent this.
Due to the poor field, matches have already been canceled. In the new cricket association rules, a canceled match is not rescheduled, but gives both teams one match point. A win, on the other hand, yields four match points. Due to the many cancellations, national champion Excelsior’20 is lower in the ranking than it could be. Excelsior’20 is now in fourth place. If more matches are canceled, it will affect the chances for Excelsior’20 to make it to the play-offs.
Luuk van Troost: “This Friday we have two matches of the Dutch national team here at Thurlede. Look at the situation on the field. There is a chance that the KNCB will say, we are going to play those matches elsewhere. Do we want cricket city in Schiedam? be or not?”
“I want the municipality to communicate. That if we ask questions, we get answers. We currently receive very little help. We wanted to build changing rooms, was not allowed. We wanted a bridge to the ‘Asvion’ field, was not allowed.”
“Because part of the Parkweg has been demolished, we are very difficult to reach. People with a wheelchair or scooter really cannot reach the cricket field.”
Here you can read yesterday’s match report of the won away match against VCC, which has a beautiful grass field in The Hague – despite the heavy rainfall.
