Ex-MotoGP Racers Tell Bad Races at WSBK Mandalika

Jakarta, CNN Indonesia

Honda racer Alvaro Bautista talk about the bad performance of the race in WSBK Mandalika at the Mandalika Circuit which is the closing series for the 2021 Superbike, last weekend.

Bautista failed optimally at WSBK Mandalika 2021. After finishing seventh in Race 1, the Spaniard finished 10th in Race 2.

According to Bautista, one of the factors that made him unable to get the best results in the Mandalika WSBK was heavy rain which made the Mandalika Circuit so wet.

Heavy rain fell on the second day or Saturday (20/11). Due to the rain, Race 1 was postponed to Sunday (21/11) and the superpole was cancelled.

“Once again it was difficult after yesterday’s cancellation due to safety reasons. The first race was; I felt worse in the warm-up (than the previous session), especially because the rubber we put on the track was much less and it looked like FP1 again,” Bautista said as quoted from Crash.

“The first race I struggled a bit because I felt the grip was lacking and with some corners still wet, it was very critical,” Bautista added.

Bautista, who has appeared for nine seasons in MotoGP, explained that he had tried hard to improve his performance in two races at WSBK, but to no avail.

“I just tried to organize and do my best, while always trying to finish the race. We got some positions in the race, but for sure it didn’t feel the best,” said Bautista.

“In the afternoon when we started with wet tyres, there were some places that were still waterlogged, so we had to be careful. Especially turns five and six are a bit difficult. Also the exit from turn nine is very critical because there is a lot of water in the pavement, ‘ Bautista continued.

The 37-year-old racer considered his performance at WSBK Mandalika to be as bad as several other series. The only good thing that Bautista felt at WSBK Mandalika was performing in front of Indonesian fans.

“I don’t have a good feeling in [trek] wet, so I’m just trying to finish the race back in the box and not in the hospital. The good thing is that we can race in front of all the Indonesian fans,” said Bautista.
