The fact is: Prudhomme absolutely wants to get through the tour. That she collides with the World Cup in Switzerland is a side note.
The Tour de France is the dairy cow of cycling. According to the estimate, 70 percent of the advertising value of an entire World Tour year is generated in the three weeks in which the heroes drive the country road through France. In normal years, the cycling spectacle brings about CHF 300 million. This time the value should be lower due to Corona. It is therefore all the more important for teams, sponsors and organizers ASO that the tour is actually carried out. It is planned from August 29 to September 20. One big mystery remains: What will Tour 2020 look like?

There is no ghost tour
“It will not be the best year for autograph hunters,” tour boss Christian Prudhomme predicts to the AFP news agency. He means jokingly – although there is little to joke about. The Corona crisis hit and hits France hard. And nobody knows whether and how strongly a second wave follows. “The details will therefore be determined in late July and early August,” said Prudhomme.

At the same time, he gives an insight into the current plans. Of course there would be no kisses from the ladies of honor on the podium. Hugs are also taboo. Prudhomme does not waste any thoughts on a ghost tour. “Spectators will be allowed to come to the tour, but there will likely be strict regulations and a pre-selection.” What that means? Prudhomme: “In the mountains, for example, we prefer those who travel by foot, bike or public transport.”

How is it checked?
This does not mean anything good for caravan fans. At the same time, the question arises as to how to keep the tour fanatics who often arrive several days in the camper from spending the night on the pass road. Are they being expelled? Are there buses? And anyway: how many viewers can stay in a small space? They are questions about questions that are still unanswered.

It is especially important for Prudhomme that the TV stations are operated. And that the advertising caravan doesn’t stop. “It will still have about 100 vehicles, about 60 percent more than in previous years,” he says. The overpowering Tour de France is also affected by the economic crisis – but it does not bring it to a standstill.
