Eurovision 2024: The paradox with Israel’s points – 2024-05-13 15:15:55

Israel’s participation in Eurovision 2024 has been discussed more than any other, as the country’s presence took place in the shadow of the bloodshed in Gaza.

The second semi-final and final featuring Edan Golan with ‘Hurricane’ were marred by booing both inside and outside the arena in Malmö, Sweden, where the music competition was hosted, with the EBU even using an anti-booing system to not to pass the disapprovals on the broadcast.

“Hurricane” managed to collect 323 in Televoting which put Edan Golan in 5th place, however there is quite an interesting detail about the voting and the results regarding Israel via… San Marino. In particular, the country of 33,000 inhabitants, which had been placed in the second semi-final together with Edan Golan, did not give a single point to Israel’s participation.

As shown in the graph below from the eurovisionworld.comthe votes from San Marino in the semi-final (where it is televoting only) went to Switzerland (12), the Netherlands (10), Armenia (8), Denmark (7), the Czech Republic (6), Norway (5), Malta ( 4 ari), Latvia (3 ari), Albania (2 ari) and an ace in Estonia.
