The Commission will take an option on 200 million doses of a future vaccine if it proves to be safe and effective against Covid-19, with the potential to purchase an additional 200 million units. “Our citizens and our economy need a safe and efficient vaccine against the corona virus. The exploratory talks should result in an ‘Advance Purchase Agreement’, which will be funded by the European Instrument for Emergency Aid (ESI). It does not disclose how much the Commission pays for the vaccine.
