European Championship: Stefan Küng finally at the start

Stefan Küng (26) will finally compete in the European Championship time trial in Plouay. The event will be contested on August 24 over 25.6 km.

Swiss time trial champion for the past four years, the Thurgovian initially had to ignore the European meeting. But he changed his mind after the cancellation of the Aigle / Martigny Worlds announced on Wednesday.

Last year at Alkmaar, Küng finished 4th in the time trial, missing a European medal by less than two tenths of a second. In Brittany, he will replace Tom Bohli in the selection of Swiss Cycling.

‘Our decision is hard for Tom Bohli. But Stefan Küng is undoubtedly our number 1 in time trial. If he is at the start, we have a chance for a medal ‘, explained Beat Müller, head of performance. Claudio Imhof, 12th last year, will be the second Swiss to compete.

Küng will remain in France after this time. The rider of the Groupama-FDJ team has been selected to compete in the Tour de France, which will start on August 29 in Nice.
