Estonian Prime Minister Kaia Kalas has called on Germany and other allies to provide greater support to Ukraine, DPA reported.
Estonia, which is one of the smallest countries in the EU, supplied arms to Ukraine even before the Russian invasion started in February.
“I call on all allies, including Germany, to send what they have so Ukraine can defend itself. If all allies had sent weapons in January or February, many lives would have been saved,” Kalas said.
According to data from the Institute for World Economics in the German city of Kiel, Estonia has supplied more weapons to Ukraine than its total GDP than any other country in the world.
In this respect, Estonia is ahead of much larger and financially stronger European countries such as Italy or Spain.
The German government has been criticized for failing to send heavy weapons to Kiev, including Leopard tanks, but Callas said it was not his job to comment on Berlin’s decisions: “Each country must assess what it can and cannot deliver.” he noticed.
