Overall, the exhibition “Making Marvels. Art, Technology and Entertainment at the Courts of Europe “exhibited more than 200 baroque rarities from European rulers. Nine of these works of art come from the treasury of Forchtenstein Castle. This includes a sun observation screen as well as a projection clock or the famous Bacchus chariot. These works of art are owed to Prince Paul I Esterhazy’s passion for collecting.

All of the objects now shown in the exhibition were intended to express the power and splendor of the royal houses of Europe in their time, explained the director of the Metropolitan Museum, the Austrian Max Hollein. “These objects should first and foremost astonish people. It should also be shown how technology and the latest achievements are used at the respective farm, ”says Hollein.
Esterhazy treasures prominently represented
The treasures from Forchtenstein are prominently represented in the exhibition. Rare silver furniture can be admired directly in the entrance area. To be represented in this way in the Metropolitan Museum is a special honor for the Esterhazy Foundation, said the chairman of the Esterhazy Foundation, Stefan Ottrubay.
“I think it is the result of 20 years of very meticulous and very attentive research, restoration and classification of the objects in world history. When you’ve arrived here, it’s a special recognition somewhere, ”says Ottrubay. Museum director Hollein also described the Esterhazy exhibits as “great and highly significant”. Seven million people visit the Metropolitan Museum annually. The exhibition area is 130,000 square meters.
