Ernst Daniël Smid wants to break the taboo surrounding his brain disease | NOW

Ernst Daniël Smid wants to break the taboo surrounding his brain disease, he says RTL Boulevard following his participation in The Masked Singer. Smid announced last year that he has Parkinson’s disease.

Friday night during The Masked Singer Blacksmith appeared to be hiding behind the mask of the Yeti. “The annoying thing is that your right hand is shaking and your voice becomes a bit monotonous with talking,” said the singer. “Anyway, I’m not going to hide myself. I want to break the taboo of that brain disease.”

Smid thought it was a great honor to participate in the program “I have had hundreds of reactions from lovely people. Thank you very much to everyone.”

The baritone singer is known for several operas and musicals in which he played, including The Traviata in Wretched. He was also part of the singing trio De 3 Baritons, together with Henk Poort and Marco Bakker.

In 2008 he was made a Knight of the Order of Oranje-Nassau for his services to classical music and his efforts for good causes.

Smid was married to ex-ballerina Rosemarie Giesen van der Sluis, who died in 2012 from the effects of pancreatic cancer. With her, the artist got daughter Coosje (29), who is also active in the music and acting world. With her he also showed the program From Pop star to Opera star.
