He currently coaches Ajax and has impressed with the Amsterdam club, including the Champions League semi-final in 2019. Previously, ten Hag has coached the Go Ahead Eagles, Bayern Munich’s second team and Utrecht.
– It will be difficult to leave Ajax after four incredible years, and I can assure the fans that I am completely dedicated and focused on getting a successful finish before I move to Manchester United, says ten Hag.

Ajax leads Eredivisie with four points to PSV, while PSV recently won the cup final 2-1 against ten Hag’s men.
Recently, it has been reported in the British media that ten Hag will take over United after the season. Ole Gunnar Solskjær was fired by Manchester United in November. Since then, German Ralf Rangnick has led the club temporarily.
– In our conversations with Erik towards this appointment, we were deeply impressed by his long-term vision to get Manchester United back to the level we want to compete at, says John Murtough, United’s football director and describes ten Hag as «one of the most exciting and successful »coaches in Europe.
Murtough also highlights Ten Hag’s style of play as attractive and offensive.
– It is expected that United will be clearer in the interaction. Ten Hag has been very clear in his identity with Ajax, says Henning Berg.

The mood among Manchester United fans is currently bad. Earlier this week, the team was humiliated with a 0-4 loss away against rivals in Liverpool. The club is number six in the Premier League.
– Everything indicates that ten Hag is a brilliant manager. It is shown by results plus feedback from people who have worked with him, says Lars Tjærnås, Viaplay expert and former assistant to Egil “Drillo” Olsen.
– But to become a good United manager, the club must organize with greater sporting competence around – a good sports director and a competent scout apparatus, among other things. In addition, he must have time for his philosophy to work, and resources to get the right players over time, Tjærnås continues.
After the legendary Sir Alex Ferguson resigned in 2013, David Moyes, Louis van Gaal, José Mourinho, Solskjær and Rangnick have been United’s managers – with a couple of short-term solutions in the meantime.
