Erick Thohir Seriously Cuts SOEs To 40, What Do You Do With The Rest?

Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – State-Owned Enterprises (BUMN) Minister Erick Thohir is serious about streamlining state-owned companies. Unmitigated, he said that later BUMN companies would only become 40 companies.

“As I said at the Ministry of BUMN, if the Ministry is not cohesive, it is impossible for us to be able todrive. The number of BUMNs is currently 40, because the cluster is 12, the BUMN is 40 under 2 wamen and I, “said Erick Thohir during the inauguration of PT Sarinah (Persero) ‘s transformation, Tuesday (18/8/20).

This cut is quite extreme considering the number of state-owned companies previously reached 142. Of the 40 BUMNs that entered the 12 clusters, one of which is the BUMN tourism and supporting industries.

Sarinah is included in the cluster. In blueprint or roadmap The Ministry of BUMN, stated that this cluster includes 8 BUMN companies that are combined.

“Where we combine 8 BUMNs into a force supply chain which is extraordinary, without being hostile or damaging to the ecosystem of our cooperation with the private sector, MSMEs, BUMN, bumdes and others, “he said.

Erick also explained the fate of other BUMNs that were not part of the 12 clusters. There are plenty of companies considering that this cut leaves only 40 companies.

So what about other companies?

“The rest will be restructured in PPA [Perusahaan Pengelola Aset]. We also form a team too. So, if the three teams don’t work together, it doesn’t work either. I hope that later the team will be compact here, “he said.

Previously, Erick had indeed pocketed Presidential Decree (Keppres) Number 40 / M of 2020 concerning the Establishment of the BUMN Restructuring Acceleration Team. This means that this ministry has the authority to merge or liquidate state-owned companies that are considered no longer good.

The 12 clusters include the Oil and Gas Industry Cluster and Energy, Mineral and Coal, Forestry Plantation, Fertilizer & Food, Pharmacy & Health, as well as Defense, Manufacturing & Other Industries. The six clusters are supervised by the Deputy Minister of BUMN I, Budi Gunadi Sadikin.

Furthermore, the Financial Services Cluster, Insurance Services & Pension Funds, Telecommunications and Media, Infrastructure Development, Tourism, Logistics and Others as well as the Transportation Facilities and Infrastructure Cluster. The six clusters are supervised by Deputy Minister of BUMN II, Kartika Wirjoatmodjo.
