In the podcast, listeners get the chance to ask the two of their questions, and they do. “This time we have a question that we should ask each other,” says Erica. “Of course we were married three times more or less, because of course there was also a flash divorce, but let’s say I’ve been married three times, would you marry me a fourth time or would you rather have a new love Marry?” she asks Martien.

“Oh what a dilemma!” he exclaims. “Yes, you know, then you have to find someone first. No, then I think it’s more fun for the whole family that we get married again. And then unpack completely.” However, Erica immediately helps him out of his dream. “But did you know that that is not allowed at all? You can marry indefinitely, but not in the Netherlands. You are not allowed to marry the same person more than three times. In fact, a third marriage is even prohibited.”

That last statement causes Martien the necessary nerves. “But we’ve also been married three times?” “Yes, but we also had a flash divorce once,” Erica explains. “That is of course not really a divorce. Or would it be illegal? Don’t let the tax authorities hear about it.”

When Martien asks the question to Erica the other way around, it turns out she thinks exactly the same. “No, it’s just like what you say, then you have to find someone first. I don’t see that appearing on the horizon at all. Then I would indeed marry you again and throw a very big party with all family and friends. so it’s not allowed. So that saves a lot of money.”
