The best performance of the session for the index was attributed to Merck & Company Inc (NYSE:) shares, up 2.44% or 2.39 points to a closing price of 100.35. In second position we find Johnson & Johnson (NYSE:) gaining 1.57% or 2.66 points to close at 171.91. The title Visa Inc Class A (NYSE:) rounds out this top 3 by 0.91% or 1.86 points for a session end at 206.86.
Walmart Inc (NYSE:) posted the worst performance of the session, losing 2.94% or 4.19 points for a closing price of 138.39. Home storage Inc (NYSE:) fell 2.55% or 8.02 points to close at 306.92. For its part, Dow Inc (NYSE:) lost 2.24% or 1.19 points for a closing price of 51.95.
The best performers of the S&P 500 index go to CF Industries Holdings Inc (NYSE:) which gains 5.21% to a price of 107.76, PENN Entertainment Inc (NASDAQ:) to 37.63, up 4.59 % And Modern Inc (NASDAQ 🙂 which gained 4.57% for a closing price of 179.03.
The worst performing values are Hasbro Inc (NASDAQ:) down 9.86% to 57.16 at the close, Bath & Body Works Inc. (NYSE:) shedding 8.17% to 33.06 and SVB Financial Group (NASDAQ:), down 6.73% to 219.76 at the close.
The best performers of the NASDAQ Composite index go to Opiant Pharmaceuticals Inc (NASDAQ:) which wins 113.83% at a price of 20.10, Freight Technologies Inc (NASDAQ:) climbs 113.15% to 0.44 and Robust industries Inc (NASDAQ 🙂 which gained 72.27% for a closing price of 3.79.
The worst performing values are Satsuma Pharmaceuticals Inc (NASDAQ:) down 83.22% to 0.68 at the close, Sellas Life Sciences Group Inc (NASDAQ:) fell 43.96% to 2.55 and Nuwellis Inc (NASDAQ:), down by 40.00% to 0.12 at closing.
Falling stocks outnumbered rising stocks on the New York Stock Exchange by 2189 values at 952 and 114 flat; on the NASDAQ 2252 values fell and 1541 rose, 196 remained unchanged.
Hasbro Inc (NASDAQ:) shares fell to a 52-week low, after dropping 9.86% or 6.25 points to a price of 57.16. Shares of Satsuma Pharmaceuticals Inc (NASDAQ:) fell to an all-time low, after dropping 83.22% or 3.37 points to a price of 0.68. Shares of Nuwellis Inc (NASDAQ:) fell to an all-time low, after dropping 40.00% or 0.08 points to a price of 0.12.
The index, which measures the implied volatility of options on the S&P 500 index, rose 5.37% to 23.73.
On the other hand, gold for December delivery gained 0.30% or 5.35 points to $1.00 per troy ounce. Elsewhere, crude for December delivery fell 4.24% or 3.77 points to $85.19 a barrel, while Brent for January delivery was down 3.57 points. % or 3.43 points for a price of $92.56 a barrel.
EUR/USD was unchanged 0.21% to 1.03, while USD/JPY was up 0.77% to 139.87.
The US dollar index gained 0.53% to 106.73.
