Epidemiologist: There is a real possibility of becoming infected with Covid-19 in public places – in Latvia

The real possibility of infection with Covid-19 is not only from known sources, but also in public and service places, if the mask is not used as a mutual protection, said the director of the Department of Infectious Disease Risk Analysis and Prevention of the Center for Disease Prevention and Control (SPKC). Yuri Perevoshchikov.

At present, according to Perevoshchikov, the risks of infection are serious, so it is justified to use personal protective equipment. You should also start thinking about reducing social contacts – if it is not necessary, you should not contact relatives or friends in person, as it is better to do so through remote communication options.

At the same time, according to the expert, Covid-19 is spreading because not everyone takes this situation seriously enough. In his view, the introduction of new restrictions is not as important as compliance with existing ones.

The epidemiologist also found the Stop Covid app to be increasingly useful. With its help, people have already learned that they have been in contact with an infected person in 120 cases.

It has already been reported that 79 new cases of Covid-19 infection were detected last day, but four people with confirmed Covid-19 infection have died.

There were 2237 tests for Covid-19 in the last day, so the proportion of positive cases against those tested is 3.5%. The SPCC has previously explained that this figure is considered important in the European Union, as above 3%, the spread of the disease is considered to be rapid and uncontrolled.

To date, 4757 people have been confirmed with Covid-19 in Latvia, but recovery has been confirmed in 1357 patients.

A total of 23 Covid-19 patients were hospitalized last day. Meanwhile, a total of 165 patients are currently being treated in hospitals, of whom 158 have a moderate course of the disease and seven have a severe course of the disease.
