What is National Film Day?
More than 3,000 theaters across the United States will join this annual initiative, including the New York City locations of leading chains AMC and Regal.
National Movie Day is organized by the Cinema Foundation, a non-profit affiliate of the National Association of Theater Owners (NATO), and was very well received last year.
In 2022, an estimated 8.1 million moviegoers took advantage of the $3 ticket offer on this special day.
The average movie ticket in 2022 cost $10.53, according to the association. The event became the busiest day for theaters of the year, filling theaters and generating a surge in popcorn sales.
