England gives the go-ahead for races at Silverstone

Formula 1 has probably also received the green light from Great Britain for the new start of its season.

As the BBC reported late on Sunday evening, the government has given its approval for two races at Silverstone. Accordingly, the premier class of motorsport should be exempt from the strict entry restrictions in the wake of the corona crisis.

This would mean that the team members, drivers and other people would not have to go into the actually prescribed two-week quarantine.

Green light for Spielberg

“We welcome the government’s efforts to ensure that top-class sport can continue and also support for the return of racing,” a Formula 1 spokesman is quoted as saying. The exemption should also apply to any Champions League games in football. An official confirmation from the government is still pending.

Most recently, the Austrian government gave the green light for the staging of two races on July 5th and 12th. The season at the Red Bull Ring in Spielberg will then begin with a delay of almost four months. The start of the season was originally planned for March 15 in Melbourne, Australia. Since then, the first ten races of the season have been canceled or postponed.

The races in England on the traditional circuit at Silverstone could take place in early August, before the plans provide for a race in Hungary. There is no detailed calendar yet, but a total of eight races are to be held in Europe by early September. The Hockenheimring is also considered a possible candidate.
