Forest Week opened for the 99th time
“Future forests will bear the mark of our economic behavior compared to current forests.” This was stated by the Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Food Eng. Dr. Miroslav Marinov, who officially opened the celebrations on the occasion of the 99th anniversary of the celebration of “Forest Week” in Sliven.
To those present, Deputy Minister Marinov also said that in the age of globalization, faced with economic challenges and climate changes, the forest wealth of our country should be valued more than ever and its sustainable development should be ensured.
“We can be proud that thanks to the Forestry Institute at the BAS and the Forestry University, forest science in Bulgaria has reached a high level,” said Deputy Minister Marinov. He thanked all foresters and forest workers who, with their work, contribute to the protection of the forest as part of our rich past and part of the future of new generations.
This year the motto of Forest Week is “Forest is life…and shared responsibility!”
At the ceremony, awards were presented to deserving foresters and forest officials. The prize “Forester of the year” was presented by Deputy Minister Marinov to Eng. Zdravko Bakalovdirector of South Central State Enterprise-Smolyan.
The Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Food Georgi Toshev presented the prize for overall forestry contribution of Eng. Zdravcho Todorov, director of the Regional Directorate of Forestry-Kyustendil. Another 13 awards were given out in various categories, including for forest control and protection activities, for the best forest entrepreneur and for a significant contribution to the promotion and enhancement of the image of the forestry profession.
The Deputy Ministers of Agriculture and Food Eng. Dr. Miroslav Marinov and Georgi Toshev also participated in the traditional planting of trees in front of the “Sliven” hall in the city.
