Energy crisis: Montana increases gas price in Austria

According to “Standard”, the labor price will rise by 67 percent as of November. Montana has more than 100,000 customers in Austria.

The German energy trader Montana was the first company in Austria to announce an increase in gas prices – at the beginning of November. The “Standard” reported in its Friday edition. The labor price has risen by 67 percent. The Chamber of Labor (AK) considers this step to be understandable if you consider the price development of the last few months on the European gas wholesale market.

Montana explained to the customer by email that, against the background of increased procurement prices on the energy market, there was no avoiding the need to adjust the energy price in accordance with the general terms and conditions. “From November 1, 2021, the working price (energy) for your system will increase by 2.32 cents to 5.80 cents / kWh (including sales tax)”, according to the announcement.

More than 100,000 customers

The provider Montana with company headquarters in Grünwald near Munich has more than 100,000 gas and electricity customers in Austria and has not stored any gas itself and has to stock up on the raw material on the gas market at relatively short notice, the AK explains according to the report. Nothing is known about further price increases, but this cannot be ruled out either, according to AK energy expert Dorothea Herzele. In any case, the state utilities, which are majority-owned by the public sector, have a special responsibility; they should have a dampening effect on price developments, especially since many households would have less money available due to Corona and could bear additional burdens heavily, said Herzele.
