Energy Company RWE Concludes $1 Billion Deal to Supply US Liquefied Natural Gas | Economy

The German energy group RWE, also active in the Netherlands, has signed an agreement for the supply of American liquefied natural gas (LNG). For fifteen years, the Germans have been receiving several billion cubic meters a year from an American terminal. This should ensure greater energy security in the long term.

RWE has signed an agreement with the American company Sempra Infrastructure, which will build a terminal in the southern United States. That terminal must be ready in 2027 and supply LNG from then on.

Germany and other European countries have long been heavily dependent on gas from Russia. But that supply has been increasingly limited by Moscow over the past year. European energy companies have therefore had to diligently look for other suppliers and see LNG as an important substitute for Russian gas.
