End of an Era: Nissan GT-R Nearing Production End with Limited Units Planned

Japanese automaker Nissan’s sporty GT-R has earned the respect and love of car enthusiasts around the world thanks to its performance and pop culture. The current generation R35 GT-R has been in production since the end of 2007, that is, almost 17 years – during this time, other models can be replaced by three or four generations. However, it looks like this car’s time is also coming to an end.

It is planned to produce only 1,500 GT-R units next year, and 300 of them will be in the most powerful Nismo configuration, reports the Japanese car media Do X, indicating that this is planned as the last year of production. How these models will be distributed around the world is unknown, but it is clear that they will be rare, hard to find and also expensive.

Throughout these years, Nissan regularly made small improvements and additions to the car, keeping it up-to-date. For this year’s model, the power of the Nismo version has been slightly increased – the regular model has 565 horsepower, while the Nismo develops 600 horsepower. So far, there is no official news from the automaker itself and their plans.

The fact that the next generation R36 model is being developed is regularly rumored and hyped, although nothing concrete has come from Nissan itself. Company representatives have stated that the new emission regulations limit the development of sports cars, but it is important for Nissan to provide the GT-R’s characteristic, celebrated driving experience. A new model is expected, but we do not yet know when and in what form we will expect it.
