Employment Authorization (EAD) for undocumented immigrants in the United States: latest news

The shortage of available labor is a real and latent problem today in the United States, especially in large companies. It is a fact that there are currently not enough workers to sustain the nation’s economic growth.

A vivid example of this is the state of Texas. Currently there are 774 thousand jobs available there.

There are barely 80 workers for every 100 positions, according to data from the United States Chamber of Commerce. The phenomenon, at the national level, shows more chilling figures. Right now there are 9.5 million vacancies.

Labor in Texas

Several organizations defending migrants and granting them rights as soon as possible debated the issue in Texas.

It is claimed that the worker shortage could be reduced if the Biden administration allowed undocumented immigrants to legally join the workforce.

“Biden has already done so with more than 1 million immigrants since 2021. We ask the administration to extend work permits to immigrants who have been here for a long time doing the strenuous work that benefits us all.” This is what Juan Carlos Cerda, director of American Business Immigration Coalition Action in Texas.

It is a reality that the White House resorted to a humanitarian immigration clause to provide temporary protection to a record number of people.

They are allowed to apply for a work permit. The offer is fast-tracked to undocumented immigrants so they can find the stability they expected in the United States.

Returning to the particular case of Texas, it is estimated that in its northern area there are more than half a million undocumented immigrants, according to data from New American Economy.

By the way, Rick Ortiz, executive director of the Greater Dallas Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, said that affiliates from different sectors have reported many unfilled positions.

“This happens mainly in areas with high percentages of immigrant workers such as gardening, manufacturing and services.”

Official state data reveals that the seasonally adjusted number of jobs in Texas grew by 18,900 in January. Thus, an increase in the state’s employed base was noted to 14,053,400.
