On several occasions, the employees in the tech department at Power Jessheim have been encouraged to come to work in the evening in connection with courses and events, without being paid for it.

On Wednesday evening, a “tech training night” is organized until 11 p.m., where it is expected that “everyone who can come”.

Do you have a tip in this matter?

E24 has seen the message where the employees are invited to the event.

The event was unpaid, until E24 made contact. Now the employees who take part in the event must be paid for taking part.

– All meetings and courses in Power are scheduled and paid for. This is not ok and not in Power’s plan. This is not a practice that we have, everyone gets paid when they attend meetings and courses, says Lise Engebråten, HR manager at Power Norge.

She emphasizes that this case concerns one department at Power Jessheim and not all of Power.

– I have been in contact with all our regions and have received confirmation that it is paid in line with Power’s guidelines and policy at meetings and courses, says Engebråten to E24.

At the beginning of November, the tech department at Jessheim organized two evening courses. Here, too, it appears from the reports that it was important that the employees participated, even if it was unpaid.

On one course, the employees were told that they had to report if it was not suitable:

“I invite you to an evening course tomorrow 01.11 where we will go through a bit of miscellaneous data. I serve pizza. I want as many people as possible to show up, so let me know if this doesn’t suit.”

Engebråten cannot answer whether those who took part in the courses will be repaid.

– We will find this out, she says.

Volunteer work

It is not the first time Power employees have not been paid for the work they do.

E24 has previously mentioned that employees were asked to work on public holidays, completely without payment.

This happened after XXL founder Øivind Tidemandsen in 2012 bought up significantly in the electronics chain, which was then called Expert, and major cost-cutting plans were implemented.

In 2019, several employees told about this, including bosses who themselves asked employees to work without pay. Several called it “hard work”.

– No one should experience pressure or expectation to stand up for Power for free. Everyone is a culture bearer in Power, and that starts with the top management. This is clearly evident at all our meetings and courses, then HR manager Morgen Hovland told E24.
