Andrea Dovozioso won the Austrian GP in MotoGP on Sunday, but that was just a footnote. The race was marred by a downright horror crash, just like in Moto2. Legend Valentino Rossi made a short prayer afterwards. “I was lucky,” said the Italian.

The incident happened at turn three with twenty laps to go. Franco Morbidelli and Johan Zarco hit each other at high speed, with all the consequences that entails.

Prayer

Rossi saw a flying motor pass right in front of him. “The Morbidelli machine was almost my death”, responded the seven-time world champion, who eventually finished fifth. “The Zarco Ducati also flew a few meters ahead of me. It was a very dangerous moment. I was so scared. It still shakes me. Restarting the game was tough, I took the biggest risk in my career. I saw a shadow, the helicopter above us I thought. But it turned out to be two bullets that passed. The motorsport gods have done their job today. ”

The Italian also indicated that he was going to do “a prayer”. “Especially me and Maverick (Vinales, ed.) Have been very lucky”, it said. “Being aggressive is good, but you shouldn’t overdo it. This sport remains extremely dangerous. You have to respect your rivals, especially at 300km / h. ”

“Killer”

Rossi spoke to Morbidelli and Zarco. The former did not want to think back to the crash “because it scared him”, the latter said that he “did not do it on purpose”. But Morbidelli was absolutely not satisfied with the Frenchman’s action afterwards.

“Zarco was almost a murderer,” said the Italian. “Braking at 300km / h like this means that you have little respect for yourself and the people you race against. I hope this incident makes him think. It was very dangerous for me, him, Rossi and Vinales. ”

Zarco himself was aware of little harm. “I think Morbidelli pushed me away with his bike. I was faster than him on the straight and had a good lead. Another bad crash
