Emotional tribute in Ciudad Real for those who died during the pandemic | BE Ciudad Real

More than 230 families have attended this Saturday the event organized by the Diocese of Ciudad Real to honor all affected by the coronavirus pandemic in the province of Ciudad Real. Emotion and much respect in a tribute that took place in the cathedral of the capital, which was attended by numerous authorities and representatives of various groups as health workers, volunteers, religious and nursing home workers.

A day of prayer that has been inaugurated by the Bishop of Ciudad Real, Gerardo Melgar Viciosa, before the imposing image of silence – in respect of the victims – of those who have been there. More than four months after the pandemic broke out, hundreds of people have been able to say goodbye to their loved ones. The province of Ciudad Real is the one with the most deaths and infections in all of Castilla-La Mancha.

Security protocol

Some families, however, have not been able to attend the tribute event due to capacity. Those who have been able to attend have done so respecting a strict security protocol, social distances and wearing their corresponding mask.

The day has coincided with the feast of Santiago Apóstol, patron of Spain, a proposal made by the Executive Commission of the Spanish Episcopal Conference, in which the work carried out by people and groups that have been on the front line fighting the disease has also been highlighted.
