A nocturnal trip that caused a lot of noise. On March 5, Emmanuel Macron completed his five-day official tour of Central Africa in Kinshasa, the capital of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC). To finish as it should his journey through five different countries on the continentthe President of the Republic attended a concert given by the Congolese music star, Fally Ipupa. At the end of the show, Brigitte Macron’s husband took a stroll through the streets of the city with the singer. During this escapade, Emmanuel Macron was filmed drinking a beer, very laid back and waving to the crowd in a festive atmosphere. Images, which have gone viral on social networks, have aroused strong reactions. If some users were amused by this attitude “lunar”, others were shocked to see French head of state in these conditions.
In order to lift the veil on this controversy, our colleagues from TF1 looked at the images in this video and conducted their investigation by leafing through local newspapers. Contrary to what has been advanced on social networks, the successor of François Hollande did not spend the end of the evening in a nightclub but In “a bar”, “which claims the nickname of “little Paris””. This location “is regularly described online by the Congolese community as a “nganda”, a term designating a “drinking establishment, bar, informal restaurant”…” According to information from TF1Info, Emmanuel Macron stayed “with its guests on the terrace” and did not set foot inside the establishment. “The video on which we see men dancing in white shirts does not therefore show Emmanuel Macron. There is nothing to prove that it was shot during this evening in Kinshasa..”, assured our colleagues, thus responding to the many rumors disseminated on social networks. That closes the debate.

Emmanuel Macron: an unexpected outing
If many protocol events were included in his schedule, it was quite different for this evening. In effect, the latter was completely unplannedas revealed TF1Info. “(…) this outing in the city was not officially on the agenda. A moment of relaxation that Minister Patrick Muyaya Katembwe, also from Bandalungwa, justified quite simply: “the fact for President Macron to have heard ‘Bandal is Paris'”.
Before getting back on the plane and leaving Kinshasa, Emmanuel Macron was keen to meet “the population before the end of their stay”. Something that could materialize in the capital of the Democratic Republic of Congo. “(…) a night out in Kinshasa that his team feared, because of the security situation and the risk of incidents.”added TF1Info. If Emmanuel Macron’s team had certainly organized everything on security issues, it had not anticipated the controversy surrounding this evening.
