(Elbil24): Would you give 168 million for a license plate? Hardly.

In Dubai, however, there are very wealthy people who are willing to put such sums on the table to get specific plates on their car.

That was precisely the case during an auction organized by Emirates Auctions earlier this year.

New world record

The license plate, which you see on the car below, became the most expensive license plate ever sold in the world, according to the auction house.

“P7” was sold for 55 million dirhams – equivalent to NOK 168 million.

The previous record was from 2008, when Saeed Abdul Ghaffar Khouri bought a sign for 52.2 dirhams, equivalent to NOK 159 million.

Volvo for 20 million

The good thing about all the madness is that the money for the sign and a number of other objects at the auction will go to the charity “One Billion Meals”, which is headed by Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the ruler of Dubai.
