Arnstad says she has seen through the tactics from the Conservatives, which she also believes she has observed in several other cases.

– The Conservatives know that it is easier to get articles in the newspapers if they include Emilie Enger Mehl. But it’s messy and awkward. The right should walk very quietly in the doors here. The Office of the Auditor General criticizes the Conservative government, not the government that is in power now.

– The Conservatives are not able to take responsibility for the policy of their own government, but try to overshadow it by pointing to Emilie Enger Mehl, Arnstad adds.

– Should not Mehl withstand criticism?

– Yes, absolutely. The Minister of Justice must attack, and she does. But there is a limit to dishonesty in my book. And here goes the border.

Møller’s cod liver oil

The SP leader believes that the Conservative Party’s party leader must now tighten up the rhetoric of his own.

– Erna Solberg should correct them a bit. She should demand some honesty.

– And the Center Party never took too much of Møller’s cod liver oil in opposition?

– Pictures and gimmicks in opposition happen to everyone, including the Center Party. What I am attacking now is that the Conservatives are quite consciously choosing to hold a minister responsible for a case they know she is not responsible for. They think Mehl criticism gives a quick look. It’s so little grown up.

Arnstad announces that she is now moving out to the Minister of Justice’s defense because Mehl is not able to do it himself.

– Oh no you – Emilie Enger Mehl stands rock-solid on her own two feet. This is about my irritation over a Conservative Party that calls itself a responsible party, but which is unable to take responsibility for the years they themselves ruled Norway.

– Let’s say it’s spin from the Conservatives, then. That’s okay, right?

– If it is spin, then it is very immature and irresponsible spin. And that is Erna Solberg’s responsibility. A fresh opposition policy is good. Dishonest opposition policies are not good.

Erna Solberg has not responded to Dagbladet’s inquiry in this case. But party colleague Sveinung Stensland is clear in his case.

– I do not let Arnstad stop me from doing my job, he says to Dagbladet.

– I relate to the person who is Minister of Justice now. I have a good and constructive dialogue with Mehl, we have collaborated in several cases where it has been natural. The Conservatives are pursuing politics to get through our cases and prevent SP’s reversals, he says.

Stensland says that he is amazed at the plot from Arnstad.

– The reaction testifies more to discouragement in Sp, than belief in one’s own politics. Sp has been halved after the election, maybe Sp should listen more to those who have chosen them than point to everyone else?

– Arnstad can reflect on how Sp himself behaved in opposition, which is not an example to follow. In case after case, SP shifts the responsibility further, but it is they who have the minister in the Ministry of Justice and Emergency Management. They have the constitutional responsibility and must also take it, he says.

– Fighting violence in close relationships has a high priority in the Conservative Party. Our government put forward an action plan that has not been followed up, other than that it was criticized by the opposition before the election. Now everyone is waiting for an escalation plan. The government will not respond when it arrives. The Conservatives have asked several questions about this without receiving an answer, most recently last week. The Conservatives are well aligned and I experience confidence internally in the line that is pursued in justice policy, he adds.
