Emergency Response to Abandoned Kayak in Flooded Dreisam – Freiburg-Breisgau-Hochschwarzwald Control Center

A person or an abandoned kayak in the flooded Dreisam was reported via the Europe-wide emergency number 112 of the Freiburg-Breisgau-Hochschwarzwald integrated control center.
When the keyword “person in Dreisam” is used, four departments of the volunteer fire department are alerted in addition to the professional fire brigade. In addition, the “Penguine” rescue divers and the DLRG are called to the scene.

A survey of passers-by and kayakers present revealed that another kayaker had capsized in the area of the freight railway bridge and was trying to catch up with his drifting kayak on foot.

The rescue workers set up three access points along the Dreisam in order to be able to rescue a person from the Dreisam if necessary. The riverside paths and embankments were checked on foot and the relevant section of the river was flown by rescue helicopter.

No injured person could be found during these checks. The further search was then ended.
