Emergency Rescue Operation for Injured Skier Stranded in Treacherous Weather Conditions on Haukelifjellet, Southern Norway

The main rescue center in Southern Norway (HRS) received an emergency message on Thursday afternoon from a skier on Haukelifjellet, who needs assistance to get out due to injury and bad weather conditions.

A rescue helicopter from Sola made an attempt to go to the scene, but had to cancel a short time later due to difficult weather conditions.

– The weather conditions make the rescue operation very demanding. There are dense snow showers, wind and minus ten degrees according to Yr, rescue manager Cecilie Øversveen tells Dagbladet.

She says that volunteers have been called to go up towards Haukeli, but that the road up there is closed.

– When they get to Haukeli, they have to go out into the terrain, she continues, and says that the person who needs help is about 10 kilometers from the road.

The person is an adult male and a foreign tourist.

– At 12.50 an SOS signal came in via our notification system. We have subsequently made contact with the man. He is slightly injured and struggling, says Øversveen.

– The man is in a place where it is possible to seek shelter, she adds.
