Emergency repair due to malfunction at the weir in Erlabrunn

At the Erlabrunn barrage, there was major damage to the weir closure. As the Wasserstraßen- und Schifffahrtsamt (WSA) announced in a press release, the damage occurred when the weir’s closure bodies were to be lowered. The damming rollers had been pulled out of the damming in the past few days in order to discharge the large amounts of water, according to the announcement. During this process, the middle weir lock blocked.

Effects on the water level still unclear

Jörg Huber, the head of WSA Main, says: “Our employees are working under high pressure on the emergency repair of the weir lock. At the moment we cannot estimate exactly how big the opening is under water.” The defect could have an impact on the water level in the dam, which extends from Erlabrunn to the Würzburg lock about 14 kilometers away.

The opening is to be temporarily closed for the time being

If the water level in the stowage can no longer be maintained, shipping will be restricted or even stopped. This was announced by the WSA Main. A hydraulic engineering company is to temporarily close the opening at the weekend in cooperation with the outskirts of Marktbreit and the Würzburg building yard.
