As of now, the Thunderbird project is being operated by a new wholly-owned subsidiary of the Mozilla Foundation, MZLA Technologies Corporation. This step has been in progress for some time now, as Thunderbird has grown in terms of donations, employees and ambitions.
This is said to have no impact on Thunderbird’s daily activities or mission: Thunderbird will continue to be free and open source, with the same release schedule and same people driving the project, the announcement said.
Moving to MZLA Technologies Corporation will not only give the Thunderbird project more flexibility and agility, but also give the company the opportunity to offer users products and servicesthat were not possible under the Mozilla Foundation.
