Elton John and David Furnish have been called to testify in connection with an alleged sexual assault of Kevin Spacey.
Kevin Spacey’s defense team called Elton John and his husband, David Furnish, to testify in an attempt to discredit the story of an accuser, whose allegation relates to an incident that allegedly happened on the way to the gala John and Furnish’s summer annual.
One of Spacey’s four accusers said that in the early 2000s, he was driving with Spacey to John’s White Tie & Tiara Ball when the actor allegedly grabbed his genitals with such force that the man said he almost had an accident. The plaintiff said he believed the event occurred in 2004 or 2005, but Spacey and his defense team refuted this timeline to cast doubt on his claims.
According to’Associated PressJohn and Furnish were called to testify to corroborate Spacey’s claim that he did not attend the party in 2004 or 2005 and that the only time he attended was in 2001. Spacey had already brought working timetables and routes showing he was filming during the events of 2004 and 2005. (Neither John nor Furnish appeared in court in London, but testified by video link).
Furnish testified first, saying Spacey only appeared in photos from the 2001 event. John, meanwhile, said he remembered Spacey attending the prom in 2001 and the actor arriving on a private jet and dressed in a white bow tie. Additionally, John recalled that Spacey bought a car through the charity auction to benefit the Elton John AIDS Foundation. He also said that the actor spent the night at their house after the gala and had never visited their house on other occasions.
Mr Furnish also insisted that it would not have been possible for someone of Mr Spacey’s stature to show up to the White Tie & Tiara Ball without being photographed or refusing to be photographed. ” It was understood that we were promoting a charity to eradicate the stigma around the disease and that if a celebrity wanted to come they would be photographed ».
Despite differences over the timeline, Mr Furnish said he recognized Mr Spacey’s accuser.
If the latter admitted that he may have been mistaken in the dates, he remained categorical that the incident in the car took place.
John and Furnish’s testimony came after Spacey testified on his own behalf last week. The court also heard from the four men who accuse Spacey. Their charges resulted in 12 charges against the actor, who pleaded not guilty to all of them.
This is Kevin Spacey’s second major trial involving sexual assault allegations. Last October, the actor scored a big victory when a US jury found him not responsible in a civil lawsuit related to allegations made by Anthony Rapp, one of the first people to have him publicly accused.
