Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – Some time ago, Tesla CEO Elon Musk met with Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs and Investment Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan and his entourage to discuss the huge potential of the Nickel Industry in Indonesia as a raw material for electric car batteries.

“According to Elon’s assistant, he doesn’t usually receive guests like this time. I saw enthusiasm and interest in his face, but I was curious why Elon, who recently was a bit stiff with some “policy” related to the “electric vehicle” industry and nickel processing in Indonesia , now excited,” said Luhut, quoted Friday (29/4/2022).
Because of Elon’s interest, Luhut thinks and believes that there are two reasons behind Elon’s cheerful impression.
“Is it because the rainy weather that has just fallen in Texas after a long time has brought its own blessings to our delegation team, or is it indeed the figure of President @jokowi who is considered by Elon as one of the “reputable” heads of state because he has been proven to be able to keep the Indonesian economy stable even though it is still under pressure. pandemic situation?” he explained.
In addition to the attention focused on Elon, Luhut also admitted that he was happy that Elon conveyed the reasons for his interest in this collaboration.
“Because my explanation about the huge potential of the Nickel Industry in Indonesia changed his perception because he considered it very promising to be able to supply raw materials for electric car batteries, which Tesla really needed, of course, as one of the leading electric vehicle manufacturers,” concluded Luhut.
Meanwhile, according to the story of Shinta Widjaja Kamdani, Chair of B20 Indonesia and Coordinator of Deputy Chairperson III of the Kadin for Maritime, Investment and Foreign Affairs, a meeting between Elon Musk and Luhut had been planned for a long time.
“Mr Luhut’s side has been in touch with the Elon Team for a long time and in the future there will be a technical team that will come to Indonesia to follow up on yesterday’s meeting,” said Shinta to CNBC Indonesia, Thursday (28/4/2022).
Meanwhile, Shinta and Kadin were present in the United States (US) for the B20 and G20 roadshows. On that occasion, Shinta also revealed that there was hope from the G20, that Elon Musk could attend the G20 Summit in November.
“In addition to exploring investments made by Mr. Luhut, we have been trying to find out how Elon can join the G20 at the summit in November,” explained Shinta.
On the other hand, as a follow-up to Elon and Luhut’s meeting, Elon invited President Jokowi to the Tesla office. Therefore, Shinta hopes that by the time of B20 there will be clarity on the investments that Elon Musk wants to invest.
