Elon Musk’s company showed the first photo of an underground station of the tunnel network near Las Vegas

In a month, Elon Musk’s Boring Company plans to launch the first stations in a network of underground tunnels near Las Vegas. Musk did not embody the futuristic project with vacuum tunnels and capsule trains. His company made it easier – dug tunnels and let self-driving electric cars Tesla Model 3 through them. So it turned out not mass urban transport of the future, but something with dubious payback.

The opening of the first section of tunnels with a length of about 1.3 km with two underground stations was planned for CES 2021, but this time due to the coronavirus pandemic, the exhibition has been moved online. Nevertheless, the Boring Company promises to complete the work according to the plan, and in confirmation of this it today published on Twitter, the first live photo from one of the stations under construction (see above).

The photo matches a computer model of the underground station, an image of which was released earlier this year. As in the computer picture, in the real photo we can see two entrances to the tunnels, which will lead traffic in different directions, as well as an escalator for lowering passengers to the station and for climbing to the surface.

This year the Boring Company reportedthat plans to expand the underground tunnel network further from the originally selected location under the Las Vegas Convention Center (LVCC), for example, to a casino under construction nearby. Gradually, the network will expand near Las Vegas, covering more and more popular places. The Boring Company transportation network may be a success as a tourist attraction, but as a means of transportation around the city, it has little chance of offering anything in high demand.
