Multibillionaire Elon Musk still wants to buy Twitter at $ 54.20 per share, as agreed months ago. Bloomberg news agency reported on Tuesday and it is confirmed by many other American media outlets. Twitter and Musk would go to court in October, because the founder of Tesla and SpaceX withdrew from the $ 44 billion deal in July. A source told The Washington Post newspaper that Twitter is considering the proposal, but that there is a lot of mistrust of Musk’s intentions.

According to various media outlets, Elon Musk’s lawyers sent a letter to the Twitter board last night (US time) to indicate that he still wants to buy the company. Twitter’s stock rose 18% after the news was announced by Bloomberg, after which trading was temporarily suspended.

The Washington Post reports that Twitter does not immediately agree with Musk’s proposal, because it is taken into account that it is a new legal move by the billionaire and his lawyers. There is little trust between Musk and the Twitter board, a source told the American newspaper.
So no cause?
Musk’s decision to eventually buy Twitter comes after a months-long legal battle. According to the internet company, the Tesla boss committed a breach of contract after deciding not to complete the purchase of all Twitter shares for $ 54.20 each. The Twitter board then took Musk to court, because he wants the deal to go through. The trial is expected to begin on October 17th.
That promised to be a show, as in preparation for the lawsuit, both sides bombarded each other with requests for all kinds of documents, emails, and chat messages relating to the deal and its fall. Part of it has already been published by the court and consequently filleted from the press. In addition, Elon Musk’s interrogation under oath has been scheduled this week, a so-called ‘deposition’.
If Twitter agrees with Musk’s proposal, the lawsuit can be suspended. As a result, no dirtier laundry than Twitter, Musk, and others involved would end up on the street. Neither Musk nor Twitter board members responded to the news Tuesday evening, Belgian time.
