Elon Musk loses $ 27 billion in just one week

Elon Musk (49) is no longer the richest man in the world. On the Forbes ranking of the super-rich, the Tesla boss was even only 3rd at times.

Austin, Texas (USA) – Elon Musk (49) is no longer the richest man in the world. On the ranking list of the super-rich was that Tesla-Boss at times even only in third place.

He is now with a fortune of 150.8 billion dollars (about 126.6 billion euros) in second place in the billionaire ranking of Forbes. Bernard Arnault (72) was still there on Friday.

The Frenchman owns the luxury company LVMH, which includes well-known brands such as Louis Vuitton and Moët & Chandon.

But on Saturday, Musk ousted Arnault (fortune: 150.4 billion dollars), his lead is – from the billionaires’ point of view – wafer-thin. Jeff Bezos (57) tops the list again with a fortune of $ 177.6 billion.

It was only in January that Musk pushed the Amazon founder from the throne of the ranking, which he held for years.

As of October 2017, Bezos was number one, while Musk was only number 31 on the list of the richest people in the world in 2020.

The entrepreneur’s rapid rise has only one reason: Tesla. The electric car maker’s share price has risen an incredible 743 percent since January 2020.

Behind this is the hope of profits through the more committed climate policy of the new US President Joe Biden (78). Musk owns a large part of the Tesla shares with 21 percent. It therefore benefited most from rising prices.

But since the high, Tesla has recently traded significantly lower again. A share cost almost $ 900 at the end of January, and on Friday the price was around $ 600. Since Monday alone, the 49-year-old has lost $ 27 billion on paper because of this Bloomberg recalculated.

Whether the losses for Musk will be even greater after the extreme surge depends on the stock market prices. But it shouldn’t bother him much. With SpaceX the entrepreneur has another company that should bring high profits in the future.
