“Elon Musk Invites Other Tech Companies to Lay Off Employees, Twitter Affected the Most”

Jakarta

Elon Musk doesn’t seem satisfied after cutting most of the employees Twitter last year. The former richest man in the world is even inviting other technology companies to lay off more employees.

Speaking at a virtual CEO Council Summit event, Musk said many employees don’t add value to the company and companies could be better off with fewer employees.

“There are a lot of people who don’t seem to have a lot of value. I think that’s mostly found in Silicon Valley companies,” Musk said, as quoted by Gizmodo, Sunday (28/5/2023).

“I think there is a possibility of significant staff cuts at other companies without affecting their productivity, even increasing their productivity,” he continued.

According to Layoffs.FYI data, in 2023 alone there will be 702 technology companies that have made layoffs with 199,047 employees laid off. Meanwhile, in 2022, 164,709 employees will be laid off from 1,057 companies.

Twitter is the biggest contributor to this statistic. After being taken over by Muskthe social media company laid off 90% of its employees, and the size of its workforce reduced from 7,500 people to 1,500.

After the departure of most of its employees, Twitter’s service has been down several times but Musk said the disruption was not significant. He also admitted that Twitter could release new features more quickly.

Musk said the current number of employees Twitter was ideal, but he said he would hire more employees. It’s quite strange why Musk encourages other companies to layoffs when he himself plans to recruit new employees.

This South African-born man did not talk much about Twitter’s plans to recruit new employees. But in speaking to CNBC last month, Musk said he regretted laying off a number of employees and planned to rehire them in the coming weeks.
