Elon Musk changes course again: after a flood of fake accounts, Twitter temporarily no longer sells blue checks

Earlier this week, the social media platform started the large roll-out of Twitter Blue, a subscription formula in which users could buy additional features for around 8 euros a month. For the time being, the formula was only available in the United States, Australia, Canada and New Zealand.

Those who switched to Twitter Blue also received a blue check next to their username on the platform from new CEO Elon Musk. Until recently that blue check had a completely different meaning, in the sense that the user in question was “verified”, in this way it was easy to verify if the accounts of celebrities, artists, companies, civil servants or journalists were real or less.
