Electronic Arts has had all older editions of the FIFA series in the digital version removed from sale. This happened without warning even before the official launch of EA Sports FC 24, which falls on September 29. This applies to both console and PC versions. A Twitter user with the nickname was among the first to draw attention to the news MauroNL (via VGC) with all older EA Sports footballs suddenly disappearing from major stores. It concerns FIFA editions 14 to 23. They can no longer be purchased. FIFA 22 and 23 are still available on EA Play.
It’s unclear exactly when the games disappeared from the menu. It’s a bit strange that EA didn’t even point this out ahead of time. On the FIFA 23 game profile on Steam for example, you will find the information: “The product EA SPORTS FIFA 23 has been removed from search results and public display in the Steam store at the request of the publisher.” According to SteamDB, this could have happened as early as September 21, i.e. even before the launch of EA Sports FC 24 early access.
Of course, existing owners of the digital version will not be affected by the change, they will continue to have access to the games. It is still possible to buy a physical version as well. At least at the moment. The end of the long-standing partnership between EA and FIFA was very forceful. Without a license, the publisher may not be able to sell the game further through this route. Or he doesn’t want to.
