Electronic Arts: Origin is dead, long live EA Desktop / CD-Action

The American publisher consistently gets rid of Origin from our lives. The company recently converted EA Access i Origin Access na EA Playbut this is only the beginning of the revolution. In some time we will say goodbye to the launcher that has been accompanying us for a decade. It will be the end of the real adventure, because the name comes from the well-deserved studio of Richard Garriott, who gave the world the Ultima series or the next Wing Commanders years ago.

Electronic Arts will provide PC players with a new program, intended to be easier to use, faster (also in terms of downloading files) and, above all, connecting the community associated with the company on each of the platforms. The EA Desktop application will keep all the data related to our Origin account, so we do not have to worry about e.g. the friends list.

It cannot be denied that this is a quite reasonable step that makes it easier for new users to identify the brand. Michael Blank from Electronic Arts in an interview with Games Beat admitted:

It was less about the Origin name and more about how we give players the option to choose how to play. Consolidating multi-brand diversity no longer serves EA or its fans.

[…] One of the things we do here is focus around a common brand. The goal is to connect gamers to the EA ecosystem: whether via EA Play in the EA Desktop App or otherwise, we can make it seamless and convenient.

It is not yet known when EA Desktop will debut.
