Electricity prices. Compensation for everyone is not to be

The Ministry of Climate is working on a new mechanism to support the poorest electricity consumers, “Wyborcza” reports. The project is diametrically opposed to what Jacek Sasin announced in 2019.

Let us recall that electricity prices shot up in 2018, PiS decided to freeze energy prices for 2019, compensations were planned for this year, to be paid only in 2021.

According to the findings of “Wyborcza”, the compensation plan promised by Jacek Sasin will probably end up in the basket. Work on the project has been taken over by the Ministry of Climate, and most likely there will be no compensation system.

Watch: The government will raise taxes? Economist translates

The ministry spoke on the matter, but did not provide details. “The mechanism should protect the weakest electricity consumers against energy poverty. The planned solution will be systemic in nature and will work for many years,” we read about an alternative to compensation.

We most likely have to say goodbye to the compensation. Sasina does not deal with them anymore, so it does not have to deliver on its promise, there are no elections on the horizon, and there is also the crisis caused by the coronavirus pandemic, so every penny counts.

As estimated by the Energy Regulatory Office, households for each month of 2020 will pay an average of PLN 9 more for electricity (these are calculations for a family of three). In total, during the year it is therefore PLN 108 more.
