The presidential office said in a statement that it will complete or ratify its government team quickly to give continuity to the elections, which will function as a repetition of a vote in October that triggered protests that led to the resignation of the former leader Evo Morales.

The decision was communicated hours after his Minister of Communication, Roxana Lizárraga, presented his resignation letter, in which he harshly criticized the interim president.

The 52-year-old conservative senator announced her candidacy for president on Friday, a move that generated surprise because she had previously said it would not be right to participate in the elections.

Morales, who currently lives in Argentina and cannot run for the May 3 elections, resigned on November 10 after an audit of the Organization of American States found irregularities in the October elections.

The leftist leader, who denies any anomaly and maintains that he was overthrown in a coup d’etat, appointed his former Minister of Economy Luis Arce Catacora as the candidate of his Movement for Socialism (MAS) along with former Foreign Minister David Choquehuanca.
