Elected Official Sends Mayor’s Scarf to Emmanuel Macron in Support of Resigning Colleague

An elected official from Gironde sent her mayor’s scarf to Emmanuel Macron

After the resignation of the mayor of Saint-Brévin-les-Pins (Loire-Atlantique), an elected official from Gironde sent her mayor’s scarf to Emmanuel Macron, in support of his colleague.

A symbolic gesture. Touched by the resignation of her colleague, the various left mayor of Cénac, a small town in Gironde, decided to send her tricolor scarf to Emmanuel Macron. “In solidarity with the Mayor of Saint-Brévin-les-Pins, I give you my tricolor scarf”posted Catherine Veyssy on her Twitter account.

Her gesture was also accompanied by an open letter, which she published on social networks, denouncing the loneliness that elected officials face. “What touched me was the violence he suffered and this feeling of extreme loneliness he felt. (…) It is a mandate of extreme solitude. We are the outcasts of the Republic”said the mayor.

As a reminder, Yannick Morez, mayor of Saint-Brévin-les-Pins, announced his resignation from his duties as city councilor at the start of the week, following several recurring death threats. Last March, his home and his cars were even burned. It is a project to set up a center for migrants that would be at the heart of these conflicts between the elected official and the perpetrators of these acts.

Emmanuel Macron reacted to this situation, giving his full support to the resigning mayor. For her part, Elisabeth Borne said she was shocked and promised to “better protect elected officials”.
