Egyptian Medicines Authority

Books – Ahmed Gomaa:

The Egyptian Medicines Authority issued an important warning when using low-dose aspirin routinely to prevent heart disease.

The authority said in an awareness circular, today, Monday, that in the event that low-dose aspirin is used routinely for primary and secondary prevention of cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases, it is advised to adhere to the dose prescribed by the doctor.

And she stressed the need to consult a pharmacist for the use of proton pump inhibitors (PPIs) for the treatment and prevention of gastrointestinal injury associated with the use of aspirin.

The Egyptian Medicines Authority had previously revealed the data required to report pharmacovigilance on the side effects of drugs, which included:

1- The age and gender of the patient.

2- The name of the drug or medical device subject of the complaint.

3- The side effect.

4- The phone number and the governorate to which it belongs.
