Egyptian Army Arming Sinai Tribes for War with Israel: Old Video Debunked

A video spread on social media that its publishers claimed was evidence of the Egyptian army arming the Sinai tribes in preparation for war with Israel, in light of the increasing tension between the two countries due to the war on Gaza.

After examining and analyzing the video, Al-Hurra found that it was old, and had previously been published in 2022 on a page called “Sinai Tribes Union,” even though it actually showed gunmen belonging to the “Sinai Tribes Union,” which, according to what it defines itself, is “a unified tribal front that includes the vast majority of Sinai tribes to support the Egyptian state in confronting extremist organizations and to support the development and reconstruction process, and they played a role in the war against the so-called “Sinai Province” affiliated with the terrorist organization ISIS.

An image from the video that its publishers claim is of Egyptian militias preparing to participate in an Egyptian-Israeli war.

The claim, spread on Facebook and Twitter, which has received more than 1.2 million views, claims that Egypt’s arming of militias comes as a political card that Egypt can exploit by instructing the tribes to attack Israel if the peace agreement is cancelled.

The publication of the video came after mutual statements and accusations witnessed in recent days between Israeli officials and their Egyptian counterparts, coinciding with Israeli preparations for a ground invasion of the city of Rafah in the Gaza Strip, and the Egyptian army strengthening its presence on the border.
