Egypt succeeds in ending the crisis of delaying the exchange of detainees in Gaza

Our correspondent reported that Egyptian efforts succeeded in ending a serious crisis that led to the delay of the second batch of the prisoner exchange deal between Hamas and Israel.

Hamas had decided to delay the release of the second batch of hostages until Israel committed to allowing aid trucks to enter the northern Gaza Strip.

What did Hamas say?

The Al-Qassam Brigades, the military wing of Hamas, had decided to “delay the release of the second batch of prisoners until the occupation adheres to the terms of the agreement related to the entry of relief trucks into the northern Gaza Strip,” according to Reuters.

Egyptian intervention

A Sky News Arabia correspondent, quoting responsible sources, reported that Egyptian efforts succeeded in resolving the crisis and that the deal will be completed tonight.

The Hamas movement said that it “responded to the appreciated Egyptian and Qatari efforts that moved throughout the day to ensure the continuation of the temporary truce agreement after they conveyed the occupation’s commitment to all the conditions stipulated in the agreement.”

Egypt and Qatar held contacts after the exchange process was suspended due to a dispute between Hamas and Israel regarding the release of detainees.

She said The Israeli Prison Service said it had received a green light to begin releasing Palestinian prisoners.

Our correspondent stated that the exchange included 39 Palestinian prisoners in exchange for 13 detainees.

Israel threatens

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, Defense Minister Gallant, Minister Gantz, the Chief of Staff, and the head of the Mossad held security consultations about the fate of the truce and about the Israeli response if the exchange deal failed.

An Israeli army spokesman told the French BFM television channel that Israel respects all the terms of the truce.

On Saturday evening, Israeli sources threatened Hamas to resume hostilities against it in the Gaza Strip if the detainees in the second batch were not released.

Our correspondent in Jerusalem reported that Israeli sources gave Hamas until midnight local time to release the detainees.
