Egypt coach sacked after 2 years unbeaten

Jakarta, CNN Indonesia

National team coach Egypt Hossam El Badry sacked despite his two-year unbeaten run with the team.

The dismissal came after Egypt drew 1-1 against Gabon in the Africa Zone 2022 World Cup Qualification Group F match on Monday (6/9) early morning WIB.

Egypt now tops Group F in the Africa Zone 2022 World Cup Qualifiers with four points from their first two matches.

Egypt managed to secure a 1-0 win over Angola in the inaugural match of the 2022 World Cup African Zone Qualifiers on September 1, 2021.

However, when strengthened by Liverpool star Mohamed Salah, Egypt actually drew 1-1 against Gabon on Monday (6/9) early morning WIB.

Despite being unbeaten in the last two years, the Egyptian Football Association still terminated the coach’s contract after holding a meeting regarding the team’s performance assessment.

Hossam El Badry, 61, is a former coach of Egyptian giants Al Ahly.

Furthermore, El Badry took over as coach of the Egyptian national team from Javier Aguirre two years ago after hosts Egypt were eliminated in the last 16 of the Africa Cup of Nations.

El Badry has taken charge of 10 matches for the Egyptian national team with six wins and four draws.
