Eggs in Russia continue to rise in price at an accelerated pace – Rosstat: EADaily

Annual inflation in Russia in November 2023 accelerated to 7.48% against 6.69% in October. According to Rosstatover the month, consumer prices increased by 1.11%.

The increase in prices for food products in November amounted to 1.55% compared to October (in annual terms by 7.21%). One of the most expensive products was eggs. So in 46 constituent entities of the Russian Federation, prices for them increased by 10−20%, and in 21 constituent entities – by 20−28.6%.

In the country as a whole, the increase in egg prices in November accelerated to 15.1% (in October – 13.1%). Since the beginning of the year, eggs have risen in price by 36.5%, in annual terms – by 40.3%.

The statistical agency also records that prices in the food sector have increased, including cucumbers (by 35.1%), tomatoes (by 19.1%), grapes (by 8.6%), and garlic (by 6.8%) . But prices for oranges (by 9.4%), lemons (by 6.3%) and carrots (by 1.5%) decreased.

Among drugs, sinupret (7.3%), levomekol and sulfacetamide (both by 2.3%), furosemide (1.9%), aspirin (1.7%), ascorbic acid and pancreatin (both by 1.4) became more expensive %).

The Rosstat material notes that motor fuel has risen in price by 2.3%, diesel by 0.3%. Prices for motor gasoline decreased by 0.7%.

As reported EADaily, antimonopoly officials in Russia have been trying for several months to deal with the noticeable increase in prices for chicken meat and chicken eggs. The FAS’s new urgent proposal to retail chains is to limit the markup on eggs to 5%.

The restriction will be in effect until March 2024 and is voluntary. The proposal to the FAS is associated with a significant increase in prices in recent months, which “causes consumer concern.”
